Man charged to court for dropping orange pill the size of a coin wins case

White people and their law suits, no wonder law of contract texts are full of cases(law students would agree). 29 year old Luke Gutteridge was handed a fine by a council enforcement officer after dropping an orange peel the size of a coin. Mr Gutteridge picked up the small stray piece which had fallen as he binned the rest of the peel and apologised to the council worker, but the officer refused to cancel the fine and told him he would be taken to court if he didn't pay the penalty which was €75 fine. Mr Gutteridge fought his case in court and won, with magistrates in Stevenage accepting his defence that littering is only an offence if there is proof the person intended to leave it.
The result has left Broxbourne Borough Council having to pay their own legal fees of an estimated £4,000. Mr Gutteridge's lawyer has requested that his own fees - a further £4,000 - are paid by central funds, which is also public money. No wonder law is a thriving profession over there, virtually everything is subject to litigation.
